It’s a great way to prepare for the RYA Day Skipper (sail or motor) or the Advanced Powerboat courses.

Programe
This is essentially a course for beginners who are seeking to take their skills to the level of skipper (sail or motor). After the course, there’s a 4 hour exam in order to obtain the certificate.The program includes:
Seamanship and safety:; Terminology, construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat; Coastal navigation and pilotage; Electronic navigation; Chartwork and electronic charts; Position fixing; Heading, course over ground and course to steer; Lights basic knowledge; Tides; Weather forecasting and meteorology; Weather forecasting and meteorology; Emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harness, life jackets and liferafts.:: Recommended Reading
Prerequisites
Because it’s available for beginners there are no prerequisites. However, most the participants have had a few days of experience like crew members aboard of a sailing or motor boat.
This little experience it’s highly recommendable so you can enjoy better and learn more. For example, if you have done the RYA Start Yachting or the RYA Competent Crew, or the RYA Powerboat Level 1 or Level 2 or one of our courses on Keelboats - Level 1 or Keelboats - Level 2..
Duration
This course has a 40 hour duration in a class based format.
There are, however, many options to attend:
Online, by distance learning (e-learning) with the support of an experienced RYA Instructor; Class based, 5 consecutive days (09.30am to 05.00pm); Class based, after work time, once a week for 14 weekends (07.00pm to 10.00pm, usually available during winter); Class based, twice a week on weekdays (09.30am to 01.30pm); Class based, private lessons (customized program); Combined RYA Day Skipper Shorebased + RYA Day Skipper Practical (9 consecutive days with 5 days sailing and 4 in classroom, 5 weekdays plus the two weekends before and after. The intense course allows “missing” one of the days in classroom, being a popular option for those who seek getting to the Day Skipper level quickly as possible and with a solid theoretical preparation.Contact us for further information.
